Developing the Correct Mindset
for Living in Abundance
by Adrian McMaster
"Living in abundance" is not something that every person has the privilege of, but it is certainly one of the most common goals for people around the world. Whether you consider abundance to be a state of material wealth or an emotional and spiritual state filled with blessings, living in abundance will require you to develop a mindset that may be different from what you’ve become used to. Those who evolve into lives of abundance often have a difficult time adjusting to the differences in their lives and end up making foolish or irrational decisions. Living in abundance can be accomplished if you develop the correct mindset and are willing to change your thinking.
The key to developing a mindset for living in abundance is to define what living in abundance means to you. For some people, living in abundance will mean that they have physical possessions or great monetary wealth. Many possessions often come along with great wealth, so these two types of living in abundance usually go hand in hand. Living in abundance can also be defined as having great personal fulfillment. This can mean many things to different people including having a large family, being able to work with nonprofit organizations, being involved in a religious organization, or being able to realize satisfaction from the work that is being done. Whichever definition you choose, you will need to develop the skills necessary for coping with a life of abundance.
Another important issue to understand is that living in abundance is not always easy. Many people think that living in abundance means that a person’s problems disappear. While having a lot of money or being satisfied with the type of work you do can reduce some of life’s stresses, it certainly does not completely erase all of the problems that come along with daily living. There will still be sick family members, traffic jams, business problems, and other issues that affect everyone. If you can understand that your new life of abundance will not be as easy as it may seem, you will be better able to cope with your improved lifestyle.
Living in abundance should also mean that you recognize how fortunate you are for all that you have. Those who live in abundance but do not recognize their good fortune are setting themselves up for unhappiness or bitterness. Even if your life of abundance is the direct result of your hard work, there are many people who have shaped you and contributed to the skills and knowledge that have made you such a success. If you’re able to recognize parents, grandparents, teachers, former employers, and other mentors for shaping your life, you will be better able to live in abundance with a clear conscience. Another part of living in abundance should also be having a willingness to share that abundance with others. If your life of abundance includes great wealth, this can mean donating money or possessions to charity. If your definition of abundance is a more personal one, you might use your knowledge to teach others, volunteer for a children’s mentorship program, or motivate others to achieve their goals. Giving back makes your life even more abundant from all angles.
Living a life of abundance can be a wonderful thing, but it can also be very intimidating if you don’t have the right mindset for dealing with this abundance effectively. If you are willing to work hard and commit yourself to living your life of abundance the right way, you can achieve everything you set out to do and live a life of personal success.
